My World Famous Burger

The night before last I tried my hand at cooking a ‘Thank You’ meal to serve 3. After a long sift through the recipe section of Serious Eats I decided that burgers would be fun delicious, and wouldn’t involve too much skill. I mean really, is it possible to make a gross burger unless you actually try to sabotage it?

So I combined these two recipes to create this (please don’t mind those awful, burnt sweet potato ‘fries!’):

It was so incredibly delicious that there were audible MmmmmmmmMMMmmmMMMm’s  around the table! Juicy, delicious, dressed up, calorific and fatty - just like a real burger should be!

If you’d like to make this yourself, here is what you need (serves 3):

  • 500g minced beef (preferably organic!)
  • 1 tbsp. EVOO (optional)
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 2 tsp. Sriracha hot chili sauce
  • 1 tsp. ground oregano
  • 1 red onion
  • 2 tbsp. butter, or substitute
  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 3 strips of bacon
  • 3 tbsp. blue cheese
  • 3 whole-wheat buns

Instructions for grilling patties:

  1. Preheat grill to medium to low heat.
  2. Add mince, EVOO, salt, pepper, hot sauce and oregano to a mixing bowl and mix all condiments into the meat with your hands.
  3. Grab a handful of mince and roll into a ball, making sure it sticks together and will not crumble.
  4. Gently press down on the meatball you have formed to make a slighter flatter, more patty-like shape.
  5. Put into grill, rotate slightly every so often, and turn over when meat appears sufficiently brown. Grill to your liking.

Instructions for caramelizing onion:

  1. Put butter into frying fan.
  2. Add in chopped onion.
  3. Add sugar, mix and leave on medium to low heat to caramelize. Should take 3-5 minutes.

Ta-daaa! Enjoy :)
